FAQ

What can I expect in my first session?

The first session is mostly about getting to know each other. I’ll ask some questions about your history, what brought you to therapy, and what you’re hoping to get out of our work together. Think of it as laying the groundwork – we’re not rushing into anything heavy unless you’re ready.

Do I have to be a Christian to work with you?

Not at all. My approach is respectful, inclusive, and nonjudgmental. I work with people from all faith backgrounds – or none at all. Your values, your pace, and your comfort level always come first.

How long does therapy take?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Some people come for a few months to work through a specific issue; others stay longer for deeper healing or ongoing support. We’ll check in regularly to make sure therapy is still meeting your needs and helping you move forward.

What kinds of issues do you work with?

I work with individuals facing:

  • Anxiety and stress
  • Trauma and past wounds
  • Grief and loss
  • Relationship struggles
  • Faith deconstruction or spiritual burnout
  • Life transitions or feeling “stuck”

If you’re not sure whether your concern “counts,” it does. If it matters to you, we can talk about it.

Do you see couples or families?

I primarily work with individual children, adolescents, or adults. If you’re looking for couples therapy, I’m happy to offer a referral to someone I trust. For families, I offer parenting classes that last about eight weeks.

Do you offer equine therapy?

Equine therapy will soon be available as part of our services, enhancing the support we offer our clients. Stay tuned for future updates!

How do I schedule a session?

You can call, email, or complete the form at the bottom of the page. Once you reach out, I’ll respond within 24 hours to set up your first appointment.

Do you take insurance?

I am in network with Medicaid and Sentara. I am in the process of credentialing with Anthem, Aetna BH and Optum/United Healthcare, among other plans. If you want to seek out-of-network reimbursement through your provider, I can provide a “superbill.”

If finances are a concern, feel free to reach out – limited sliding scale spots may be available.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes – confidentiality is a foundational part of therapy. What you share in sessions stays between us, with a few legal exceptions (such as safety concerns or required reporting). We’ll go over all of this clearly in our first meeting.

What if I cry the whole time?

Honestly? That’s completely okay. I’ve got tissues. (Good ones. None of that sandpaper stuff.)

Crying is a natural and healthy part of processing – we celebrate emotional release here, not apologize for it. Also? You won’t be the first or the last.

Can we just talk about my life without diving into my childhood right away?

Absolutely. You get to set the pace. If you’re not ready to visit the past (or even talk about your feelings much), that’s okay. We’ll start with whatever feels manageable and build from there.

Will you psychoanalyze me in the store?

I’m a therapist in the office – but just a regular human out in the wild. If we run into each other at Target, I’ll smile and let you decide if you want to say hi or slip quietly down the next aisle.
